Champions League update: Barcelona and United through to semi's
Bojan Krkic was vital in Barcelona's win over Schalke |
BARCELONA/MANCHESTER, Apr 9 (SW) - FC Barcelona and Manchester United will be each other's opponents in the semi finals of the Champions League. Both sides achieved a 1-0 victory in the return leg of the quarter finals tonight.
Schalke showed great motivation in the first half at Camp Nou, but failed to convert their chances.
Yaya Touré put Barça ahead in the 43rd minute, and Schalke never had the strength or quality to find the right reply.
Barcelona seemed uninspired themselves and home fans even seemed annoyed by the way their team played. When the only exception on the pitch, Bojan was subbed off for Giovani, many supporters even showed white handkerchiefs in disagreement.
After Manchester United's 2-0 win in Roma last week, Sir Alec Ferguson's team had little to worry about at Old Trafford.
When Argentinian striker Carlos Tévez scored for 1-0 in the 70th minute, Roma's remaining hopes were wiped away.
Barcelona and Manchester will be facing each other in the semi finals, and the winner of that clash meets with either Liverpool or Chelsea in the final.
