Man Utd target David Silva to stay at Valencia: club
MADRID (AFP) - Valencia's star striker David Silva, a target of several top European clubs, is to remain at the Spanish side, vice-president Fernando Gomez said Wednesday.
"There is complete agreement between the club and the player David Jimenez Silva that he will remain with us for the next five seasons," he told a news conference. "We have always expressed the hope that he will stay with us."
Gomez said he hoped to make a similar announcement soon about another key player, David Villa.
Silva, 22, one of the best players in Spain's European championship-winning squad this year, has had interest from Manchester United and Barcelona, among others. He is under contract with Valencia until 2013.
Valencia, Champions League finalists in 2000 and 2001, finished just tenth in the Primera Liga last season and only qualified for the UEFA Cup thanks to their Spanish Cup victory.
