Donieber Alexander Marangon (born 22 October 1979 in Jundiai), or Doni as he is more frequently known, is a Brazilian football goalkeeper who currently plays for AS Roma of Italian Serie A. He joined AS Roma moving from Brazilian team Juventude on August 31, 2005, which was the last day of the transfer window in the 05/06 season.
The arrival of Doni at Roma continued a trend which has recently began in Serie A - more and more clubs are dropping Italian goalkeepers and opting for Brazilian ones instead, following the steps of AC Milan's Dida and Inter Milan's Julio Cesar.
At first Doni found his way into first team action blocked by Italian U-21 international
Gianluca Curci and was restricted to UEFA Cup games. However, after impressing in cup competition, he replaced Curci in goal for league games and it is now Curci who is forced to play solely in cup competitions. Doni's contract with AS Roma runs out at the end of the season.
He has yet to earn his first cap with the Brazilian national team. But finally named in the 22-man squad for the friendly internationals against England at Wembley on June 1st and Turkey in Dortmund on June 5th.
